Solar Forecast

SGRU research team has been continuously developing expertise and experience in research on solar power forecast (SPF). Our team collaborates on this research topic with EGAT, the Meteorological Department of Thailand, and research agencies from China. The information of SPF is useful to energy management systems (EMS) for effectively handling solar power intermittency in the power grid. Our interests include SPF by site- and area-based in different time horizons such as very short-term forecasting (hour-ahead) and short-term forecasting (day-ahead). The required input data for each forecasting method are classified into 1) data of output power and weather variables from local measurements and 2) data from the weather forecast algorithm. The SPF information can be used as key inputs to various types of EMS in Smart Grid with aims at integrating higher solar power generation to the power grid, more worthily and reliably.
